1997-honda-cityRe-launched 1996, 3rd genereation City was built on Civic platform and had code name SX8. Face-lifted in 2000, and in 2002 fourth generation was introduced. Fourth generation City included a four-wheel drive version. Like the contemporary Honda Jazz, the City is actually a rebadged Honda Fit, in the City's case a rebadged Fit Aria. The Mugen supercharger kit can produce 150PS/6,600RPM, and 185Nm/3,800rpm torque on 1,5 City engine.

 In late 2005 fourth gen was face-lifted with new front grille, new headlamps, new fog lights, new taillights and bumpers. The front end has been extended forward by 65 mm (2.6 in) while the rear has been extended by 15 mm (0.6 in). The engine remains the same but the intake manifold has been modified, together with suspension and bigger, 15 inch wheels.

Honda City in Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia are using CVT gearbox for both i-DSI and VTEC variants. The CVT gearbox is equipped with a 7-Speed automatic transmission with manual override using paddle shift buttons. The 2005 face-lifted Honda City i-DSI achieved an impressive 3.82 L/100 km of fuel consumption during a challenge in Malaysia on June 2007.

The newest, present model of Honda City was unveiled in Thailand on the 10th of September 2008. Honda also announced that the City will be offered in selected European countries with a 1.4 liter i-VTEC engine mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed i-SHIFT automated manual transmission.

In addition, class-leading* interior space was achieved to create a cabin that surrounds the occupants with an open and secure feeling. The new CITY is equipped with a 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, which is further advanced in every way, including greater output and fuel consumption.
